Who We Are
At Hanbury Care we can successfully accommodate children and young people between the ages of 8-17 years and welcome all genders. Our children in our care can display social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties and associated complex needs. This is including, but not exclusive to non-education engagement; child exploitation; trafficking and modern-day slavery; self-harm; anger management and aggression; drug and alcohol misuse.
We provide intensive tailored packages of support and undertake regular assessments to meet the individual and changing needs of the children and young people placed within our care, affording them the opportunity to feel safe and reach their potential.
We encourage our children and young people to understand and manage risks and support them with their social skills, emotional and physical well-being, education, independence, financial support and support family links and contact.
Our aim is to witness children and young people in our care grow into adulthood with the right tools to prosper independently.
If required, we can provide a long-term home for children and young people who have faced rejection and are deemed difficult to place. We can also offer support to facilitate successful transitions from our home to a placement home with parents or family members, as well as independent living.
At Hanbury Care we are passionate about ensuring every child and their individual needs are met, and we strive to ensure that our approaches to support are flexible and adaptable.
Our Team
At Hanbury Care we all have a strong belief that the children and young people in our care are to be afforded the rights and opportunities that they are deserving of, and those that we would want for our own children. We promote and facilitate our children to be involved in activities, hobbies, or individual interests to develop and sustain their physical, emotional and mental well-being. Hanbury House is within an area of extensive facilities and establishments that allow us to encourage all children, no matter what their ability or interests are, to be active participants in any activities they chose.
We believe that to understand, manage and develop positive behaviour, we must work from the whole picture of the child within a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE). Extensive training is delivered to our staff that covers attachment and early childhood trauma, abuse and neglect, as well as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Staff are encouraged to use the ‘Thrive Approach’ in our everyday care for our children and young people, and we pride ourselves on being the only residential home in Wales to be Thrive accredited practitioners.
We fully understand and recognise how a child or young person’s experiences impacts on their cognitive and physical development. Such experiences can be attributed to triggers for behavioural concerns, and we work therapeutically with the child to address these. Working with positive behaviour management techniques, it is only by understanding why a child or young person behaves like they do, that we can successfully turn negative behaviour into positive behaviour.
All our staff are committed to ensuring that our children and young people feel safe and protected from abuse and neglect. We strive to build successful, trusting relationships with the children in our care. We feel that consistency is a key element to achieve this, enabling our children and young people to feel like they can talk to us about anything that may be worrying them.
